My cousin Jennifer gave birth to her 8 lb. 13 oz. baby girl but soon after they found that she was having trouble breathing. She has reflux but it appears to be better. They finally got to come home yesterday. About 12 hours later my grandma passed away. It kind of made Easter hard because all the family always meets at her house. We still met, but it just seemed so weird. Chris and I stopped by the funeral home before we went out Sunday. I needed to before the funeral or I knew it'd be harder on me. We went to Chris's aunt Sharon's later that afternoon and it kind of took my mind off things. His step-sister announced that she's 6 weeks along, expecting their second child, so that was good news. His grandmother is so sweet. She just had surgery on her shoulder earlier last week so she has her arm in a sling. Poor thing can't drive for a couple of months so I know it will be hard on her. Please pray for her and her daughters, as they will be taking care of her for a while. Please pray for my dad too. I know everything is really hard on him right now.

That's all I have.

Snufflufugus!!!

The Zoo was a lot of fun, even though it was drizzling all day. And cold. But there were virtually no people there. Chris and I are even more provoked to eventually acquire a large saltwater aquarium with a living coral reef. One of the tanks was absolutely beautiful. I should have brought my camera. I kick myself now for not having it on me. The monkeys were boring though. They all huddled up and had their backs to us. They smelled anyway. The coolest was the snow leopard. I think he was hungry. He was about the only animal that was active. I think we'll have to go back on a nice, sunny day. The Asian elephants were cool as well. They looked like Snufflufugus!! Speaking of... when the heck did they start referring to Snufflufugus as 'Snuffy'?! W-T-F man! Are kids that lazy they can't say his whole name. I'm disappointed.

On another note...

We didn't get out of the dentist's office until setting up an appointment for me as well. So I'm now looking forward to April 28th. *frown* I know my teeth aren't that great. And I know it will be expensive to get done what needs to be done. *frown* Fortunately, my teeth don't bug me or hurt. Just not the greatest in the world. I love Chris so much. We laugh a LOT together. Even when we do scuffle it's usually over something stupid I've done. Marriage is amazing! I feel sorry for the people who get married and fight all the time and want to go to counselling. Or, maybe I don't. It was their decision to marry them. I don't know. But I do know God answered my prayers for the best husband!

OOOOH!! 122.5 lbs. today! I thought last week I worked out a lot. I did a total of 82.5 miles in 386 minutes for the seven days. And so far this week, in four days I've done a total of 86.8 miles in 369 minutes. 4.3 mile more in 17 fewer minutes. For as much as the bike is geared towards my legs, I can really notice a difference in my back and arms. I guess the cardio workout is doing a good job. I feel so much better, too. I have a ton of energy now. Woo exercise!

memories of childhood...

We got an exercise ball so Chris can bounce around the apartment... literally. Chris and I went and got a recumbent stationary bike at Wal*Mart. For the price we paid, we got a great deal. It's magnetic resistance and super quiet. And oh my goodness the workout! I haven't sweat like that since doing field-length sprints for soccer at the end of April. I've decided to do a 30 minute minimum work out on it everyday for a week straight. I might shorten it to 5 days a week after the first week but probably not. I actually enjoy using it. I can sit down, watch tv, and still be productive. Plus, I'm really doing all this so I can avoid heart problems that seem to be abundant in my family. I hit a brick wall around January and got hung up at 126 pounds. I'm down to 125 after two nights of the bike and watching my food. I got some vitamins to help with carbs and fat and I'm drinking a minimum of 10 cups of water a day. Needless to say, I pee a lot!

Pencils down...

I made a Quiz for everyone to take! Take my Quiz! and then Check out the Scoreboard!

I get bored easily and I have this 30 minute break between work and class. *shrug*

a little late addition

I guess I should add a post to this. I took it at the city cemetery not long after my mom’s mother passed away. It got good reviews from my photography teacher, although it was in a series.

Oddly, I have a similar expression on my face when I sit and watch TV on the couch. It seems like TV is this illusion that just draws you in and lately I've been its weakest contender. On occasions, I pull myself up and do some laundry, or dishes. But other than that I just don’t seem to find much else to do. I’ll play a couple games of spider solitaire or text twist, read through my friends’ blogs who I don’t ever see, and sometimes treat myself to a pedicure. Life is just so busy right now with 18 hours of classes, work stuck in anywhere I can fit it because God knows Chris and I need the money, and then cooking/cleaning/laundry. It fills up my day quick and even though I have a lot to accomplish, I don’t feel like I’ve done anything noteworthy. Once in a while Chris and I go out to a movie but there’s nothing much else to do in this town than that. We do get a lot of cuddle time in though. And I always enjoy those moments.

But, tomorrow we may go see his friends in Owasso, so that might be fun. Last weekend my great aunt told my mom to have us come see her. I didn’t realize she lived just barely a mile away from us. We sat and talked to her and her husband for about 3 hours. It was really nice, even though my great uncle JP talked mostly about his wonderful coffee making. Between him and my aunt Jackie, Chris and I barely got a word in. She did make us a huge quilt. She said we'd need it for as tall as Chris is.

I should take up knitting. =/

please stay on the line for the next available representative...

eff that... I swear, the only people that call us are Chris's mom and Chrysler. And when Chrysler calls in the middle of an afternoon nap it just kind of makes you angry.

On another note, babysitting Jacob was pretty fun. At least for me. Chris doesn't like the screaming at the top of his lungs much but you just have to know how to fix it. Melissa came by at 7:20 and I took her to work after she showed me everything. I was scared driving Jacob from her work to our apartment but it ended up being fine. He just slept. He woke up about 8:30 and changed his diaper and fed him. Then he giggled at me and we played a little. Then he ate more.. and burped and ate... and burped.. and you can guess what came next. It was a day full of eat, burp, sleep, and change the diaper... over and over again. Chris slept in a little but then we went to Melissa and Chris's to wait for the cable guy at 1 o'clock. I had just got Jacob to sleep at 4 when the cable guys got there and I had to leave to pick Melissa up. So Chris stayed there with Jacob by himself. When we got back Chris told me he had to change his diaper because he was screaming. He finally got him back to sleep though. I'm glad he got a little experience at that. He'll need it.

Chris said I've changed a lot since we first started dating. He said I'm such a girl now. I guess I do like pink a lot more than I used to. But it's a good thing. I just got my hair cut too. Not any on the length, which it's getting kind of long again. But I like it. I got big, chunky layers cut into it and a few bangs. It's very girly. And very cute when it's straight.

School starts next week and I'm taking 18 hours of business core classes. What fun. But, Chris and I may get to take Finance together. One book and a study partner is a good thing.

Today was Melissa's birthday and Chris's parent's wedding anniversary. That's it.

Resolutions...

I guess my new year's resolution is to get down to 105 pounds. It was our first Christmas together. He bought me some beautiful diamond earrings that I absolutely love. And a foot spa!!! Ahh... but that's kind of for both of us. =D

We've thrown around the idea of building our house in the future. We both want a large home so we're kind of looking at ideas. We both have a good idea what we want. Like for instance, I want a very nice, large kitchen with wonderful appliances and great storage and a master bathroom probably just as large. One such as this would be quite nice. We both want something at least 3,500 sq. ft. or more. We'll just have to sit down work out all the details ourselves. Chris has a picture in his head that we need to get down on paper. I can't wait to get started on the plans though. He'd like to have a house built by the time he's 30, which is in 7 years! Wow.

a weighing issue

Okay, I've lost 8 pounds since our wedding. My goal is to have a body mass index of 18.5 which would put me at 105 pounds with my height. 105... 128.5.... so that's... 23 and a half pounds. I can do it. I've been trying to eat a lot healthier. Salad for dinner the past two nights and turkey sandwiches for lunch. No more soda, trying to cut out the sugar and candy... but I think we all know how that goes. But there's no way I'm cutting out my coffee and hot tea. Forget that. And as long as my boobs get somewhat smaller in the process, I'll be ecstatic! A couple weeks ago I went to Viki's with my sister and we both got measured. Luckily I'm the size I thought I was but it's still a cup larger than I'd like to be. But at least I'm on the right track and not gaining any weight. I lost 7 pounds all at once after we got married and have maintained it the whole time. Jumping on the scales every morning is encouragement enough to keep working at it.

5 Days until CHRISTMAS!!!

it's getting cold outside

A FISHTANK. The 800 pound fishtank that's sitting in our living room. You can't really see them well, but the ornaments in there have since been changed. As has the $20 a bag (which took four!) black/blue sand. We replaced it first with blue gravel, and then a smaller natural looking gravel. I don't think we're going to change it for a long time. We also added some pretty slate-looking, shiny flat rocks that we built up into a cave and a large peice of driftwood. Then another small cave for our dragonfish to hide in. Except, we guess it wasn't dark enough so he burrows under the gravel and has pushed up a pretty good sized pile.

I've been scrolling through songs at AccuHolidays.com trying to find the song I heard yesterday. It was a version of Christ Child's Lullaby sung by Kathy Mattea, which I'm not sure if I know who that is or not but it was beautifully celtic. I just can't seem to find it again though. But along the way I get to listen to plenty of Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole and Josh Groban so I'm not overtly upset. And as for celtic sounding songs, my new favorite song is Rejoice O Come, O Come Emmanual by Jim Brickman. I heard it and my heart skipped a beat.

And finals. I can't wait for them to be over. I actually finished all my projects last week and got them turned in on time. So just five more tests and I'll be finished. That also translates into a LOT of studying. The only class I'm slightly concerned with is Information Technology. Which really should be my easiest one but when my dad was put in the hospital again I had to miss a test. So the final is going to take place of any test below the grade I make on it. But, with the way the professor grades, I have a B in the class, and a 69.29%. He allots a percentage of the class to an A, then a B, and so on. But I made an 84 on the second test, which was the 2nd highest. So it shouldn't be too bad. I'll just be really glad when they're all over with.

snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes...

My favorite holiday is soon approaching!! I didn't take this picture but it's similar to the theme of our Christmas tree decór. Thanksgiving was great! We went to Chris's mom and dad's and had lunch with his grandma Mary Bell and aunt and uncle Charla and Steve. Soooo much food and it was great. We also watched Terminal which was a great film. Then we were off to my grandma's for dinner. Sat around and talked for a while then Mom and Laura went with us to mom and dad's and we dug out the old Christmas tree. Mom and dad are letting us use it since we don't have a tree yet and don't really have the money to spend on a nice new one. So we stayed up until 5 this morning getting it all together. Made a trip to Wal-Mart at 2am for more ornaments and some icicles and oh yes... World of Warcraft. So Chris installed that and I installed the tree. I still have a strand of lights I need to do something with. I love having the tree up. It makes the house feel so much more festive and warm. The blue in the tree compliments the furniture too. So it wall works out. No snow but hopefully that will come soon enough.

NSU: Where the 'N' Stands for Knowledge

This is a picture I snapped after a game of chess with Chris. The sign says "Shannon WINS! (doesn't matter that Chris played without a queen, I still won)". That took a lot of work to do too.

Today I gave my first speech in my speech class. I decided over the summer to stop putting off this class and just take it. It's horrible when the grad student that's teaching that class has worse grammar than a 5th grader. "NSU, where the 'N' stands for knowledge!" I was really pleased with the speech though. I did it over heart disease and treatments for the such. I've come to learn a lot about it already, so speaking about it wasn't difficult at all. And my voice didn't crack!! This older man in the class said that it was a very good speech. He was an EMS practitioner for 3 or 4 years and thought it was very well researched. That's all I've got for now. I was just really excited about it!

...

I sometimes wonder if anyone reads this at all.

For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart...

Six months and we've already been back to Hillcrest and another EagleMed life-flight.

8:00am Monday
My dad had his six-month check up at Hillcrest Monday morning. He had one test in the morning, then another in the afternoon.

1:30pm Monday
The sent him and my sister home around 1:30 and before he made it home they had already called his doctor in Tahlequah to call him and tell him to get back to Hillcrest as soon as possible. Since his doctor couldn't contact him and they knew he was a volunteer fireman, they dispatched 911 over the radios and had the better part of the Lowrey Volunteer Fire Department out looking for him.

4:30pm Monday
Finally when he got home from working with my brother on the ranch, a friend and fellow fireman called him at home and told him the news. Hillcrest found through the tests that the stent that was placed six months ago had become 90% blocked. My brother and mom took my dad to the emergency room at W. W. Hastings Hospital.

5:45pm Monday
I didn't find out until my brother called us at home and talked to Chris. At first I thought it was a man calling Chris about his computer, but when I heard the concern in Chris's voice I knew something was wrong with my dad. There's nothing scarier than coming to the realization that your own father's life is at so much risk. Chris did his best to keep me from worrying. Melissa, Chris and Jacob were going to Laura's for dinner and we were all under the impression that Dad, Mom and Jimmy were already in Tulsa.

8:40pm Monday
We find out that Dad is still at Hastings waiting for the EagleMed helicopter to return from a flight to Hillcrest. We all went up to the hospital and talked to my dad. Of course, he was more concerned about us taking care of mom. My Uncle Joe and aunt Marsha were there as well as their son Tyler and another aunt Betty. The pilots were really nice. They seemed to be happy to fly a laughable patient. I'm sure not many of their patients get to laugh and joke with them. My dad was concerned with the flight. He's afraid of heights and has never flown.

9:40pm Monday
Dad arrived at Hillcrest and was admitted to a room to await his doctor's arrival. We were on our way to Tulsa.

11:15pm Monday
The doctor arrived and said that they would do an echo-cardiogram in the morning and more than likely perform a heart catheterization, the same procedure they did last time to put the stent in. I stayed up until 2am holding my dad's hand while Mom, Laura and Jimmy slept on the fold out bed in my dad's room. Chris and I layed down then and fell asleep on the cushions from the sofa. At 6:30 Tuesday morning a nurse came in and drew blood from my dad.

11:30am Tuesday
They finally sent a nurse to take dad to the Cath Lab. The procedure itself took about an hour. My dad's Uncle Harvey and aunt Jo Ella came and sat with mom and the rest of us while we waited for the surgery to be finished. A little old lady from dad's surgery six months ago was there again on volunteer duty answering the waiting room phone. She really did a great job comforting my mom. She was so sweet. She told my mom that this morning she had thought to herself that she wouldn't go to the hospital that day. But when she was there with mom, she knew she had a reason to be there. The doctor finally came out and told us that they found that tissue had grown over the cobalt chromium stent causing the blockage. The doctor put a medicated stent inside the previous stent to open my dad's LAD allowing blood to flow once again. They call this artery blockage the 'Widow-maker' because in the event of a heart attack with a blockage in the LAD, generally you don't make it to the emergency room. God has been watching over my dad. He's come too close twice and still hasn't had a heart attack and has no damage to his heart from the blockage. On the other hand, he still has a 15% chance that the tissue could grow around the second stent. If that happens, they'll have to do open heart surgery. I know that's my dad's biggest fear right now.

Later Tuesday evening my dad's cath was removed and he then had to lay still for 6 hours. My uncle David, cousin Lou Anne and her 4 month old son Coby came and visited. My other cousins, Jonathon and Christine, came and sat with us for a while. They released him Wednesday around 4 o'clock. We all went to mom and dad's and ate dinner. Jacob ate more than anyone. I'm really glad that everything worked out okay. I'm so glad to see my dad back in church and really working at reading the Bible and studying. He said that he's sure that that was the reason this is all happening. Letting him know that he needs God in his life, just like I do and I hope the rest of us.

Jacob!!!

The beginning of a new Sooner fan.

Mommy and Jacob

This is Jacob in his Snoopy pajamas that his Uncle Chris and Aunt Shannon got him. It's kind of weird, he looks just like my brother Jimmy did when he was born. Chris laughs at me because I get all gooey for him. He's a baby though, and I love babies! Had me and Chris not gone back to see if Chris wanted something to eat from Sonic we wouldn't have known for a while longer. We went back at 11:45 and asked the nurse if we could see them and she was like, "She's nursing." Thanks for telling us. He weighs 8 pounds 7.5 ounces, 19 inches long and so adorable. He had the hiccups when I got to hold him. Although they hadn't given him a bath yet so I'm SO thankful he was wrapped up nice in a blanket. I'll post pictures once I get them developed. I'm so excited!!

Also I hope every conservative American got out and voted tonight. I REALLY don't want Kerry as President. REALLY!

old blue eyes

I don't really have much to talk of today. Chris and I went and drove around at the river and I got to take some pictures. We originally set out to find some nice rocks to put in our aquarium but we didn't find any. So we went to the park and I got to take pictures of the trees with the funky roots. I'll post some eventually. After a trip to Lowe's and Mazzio's we stopped and rented a scary movie and I got drunk on sour apple puckers. Sweet stuff but I can't drink much Cap'n Morgan's straight. Fun fun times. =D

Although... we haven't seen one of our crabs at all today. One of them crawled down in a hold in the bridge we have in the tank and the other usually just sit below the coral. But the third one has been nowhere to be found. We even picked up all the ornaments and looked around everything. I don't think there's any way for him to crawl out of the tank, everything's covered with maybe lacking about a 1 cm hole. And he's a fat crab!! He can't get out of that. So who knows. We might end up finding a dead crab when we move out of here down the road. =( The crabs are cool. They're just like the ones on Finding Nemo... "hey.. heY... We didn't want to let him get nipped up too bad. The tinfoil barbs had already taken a liking to chasing him. Poor fishy.

We went to the pet shop here in town at lunch today and bought some red aquarium crabs. I'll post a picture of them once I get the film developed. They're kind of funny to watch. They were walking sideways along the walls when we first put them in the tank. It looked like they were trying to be sneaky and stuff. We're also on a new mission to buy some Amazon discus since the owner of the pet store showed us her aquarium in her apartment above the store. She had the largest bala shark I've seen. He was probably 7" long but incredibly fat. She also had some blue cobalt discus and another discus that I think was either a regular pigeon blood discus or a blue snake discus. She had a beautiful array of fish that Chris and I didn't think would get along well. We should be fairly proficient in determining if two kinds of fish are compatible with as much research as we've done on all of them. But she said that as long as you get them small, they generally adapt to each other and don't really fight much. So we get to shell out $35 for a small blue cobalt discus in the near future and also find some more large ornaments for the tank. We almost bought a ghost knife fish too but he was $25. Look them up, they're weird. But that completes my accomplishments of pictures and posts for the day.

great buy...

This is the truck that I'm selling. The moon is supposed to get a rich copper/crimson color to it so I'm going to try to take a few pictures. The old farmers' almanac says that more women who are 35 weeks into pregnancy are more likely to give birth 24-48 hours after a full moon. I'm so hoping that Melissa has Jacob by Friday. I know she doesn't want to have him on Halloween and my uncle's birthday is Saturday. Saturday wouldn't be so bad, but if she has him Friday, I'll get all weekend to play with the baby. That is if she'll let us near it. I'm sure by the time he's finally here and she gets to take him home, she'll be so tired from all the people at the hospital. But all I can say is she'll have to get over it. Jacob will be the first grandson for my parents and Chris's parents so EVERYONE is excited. I just hope he's healthy. I watched Maturnity Ward the other night and saw a baby who had about 80% of his intestins outside his stomach cavity. Fortunately the doctors were able to work them back inside him (after about 7 days) and his digestive system was fully functional. I haven't kept a journal in over a year and so much has happened. The biggest and greatest thing that has happened is that I married the most wonderful man, Chris Lofthus. All this despite the fact that my best friend didn't fend well with him because of one conversation at Subway. It's ironic that she's the one that had pushed me to date him in the first place. It's funny how people change. But all in all life is good, just a little... desolate. I guess that's what getting married does to you. It builds this wall between you and your friends and isolates everything to a dull position. I'm finding I had fewer hobbies than I once thought. But I have Chris and he's everything to me.

We celebrated his birthday on October 14th in hopes that my sister would have her baby boy the same day. It was also my late grandfather's birthday. But she didn't have it and still hasn't. But she's not due until this Saturday the 30th. She's so scared he'll be born on Halloween. My grandma chuckles that she'll have a little spook. We're all so excited. I'm so excited that I actually started watching A Baby Story on TLC. And due to that I will never be inside the maturnity room while anyone is giving birth. And I definitely don't want to see the baby until all the placenta and nasty is washed off. That reminds me... I went to a birthing class with Melissa a few weeks ago. I felt so out of place.. especially when I saw guys and girls I graduated high school with there with their girlfriend or mother. But the worst part was when the nurses asked who was planning on having an epidural and having the strangest sensation to raise my hand. No pain is a good thing. Especially when your mother tells you stories that mine has told me.

I want so badly to paint these drab white walls in our apartment. Any type of color, even an off-white, would be such a relief. But our $700 fish tank makes up for a lot of the decorating stuff I wanted to do. After all the trouble at first with a couple diseases, we now have 2 silver dollars, 3 tinfoil barbs, 6 bala shark and one red-tailed black shark. The black shark is pretty fiesty too. He's about the same size as the bala shark and the tinfoil barbs are probably 3 times their size now (they seemed to grow faster). But the black shark will chase any fish out of his territory. It's really pretty funny. We had 2 angel fish for a while but one was sickly when we got him and ended up dying, so we took the other one to my grandma before he got nipped up too bad.

I have a marketing test to go study for now, so that is all. You may post if you like, I'm not sure how often I'll keep this updated but if you guys are as interested in what's going on with me as I am with you, then maybe someone will read it.
